The department of Communication Sciences and Design of the UAM campus Cuajimalpa gathers the work of a group of academics specialized in the contemporary problems of communication. Its focus is on interdisciplinary work, considered a fundamental aspect to achieve a broad understanding about the complexity related to the objects of study of communication; as well as the practice in professional environments. While it keeps on sight the central elements of contemporary communication tools, such as the role of a critical analysis of culture as the symbolic landscape where meaning happens through social interactions; the critical study of the convergence between digital media and an interest in the analysis of image and sound in this context. The academics of the Department hold collective studies and events, as well as audiovisual productions and exhibitions that promote multimodal messages concerning the current critical topics. Interactivity is another element analyzed from different scopes related to the processes of knowledge construction and meaning in Science and Education; as well as the political and institutional areas.
