History.

On the 19th of September 2005 the activities of the library of the UAM campus Cuajimalpa provisionally began within the installations of the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA). As a consequence of the lack of a building of its own on the part of the UAM Cuajimalpa, both academic institutions reached a collaboration agreement where the UIA granted part of its installations for the UAM-C to keep with its academic activities. In order to provide the library service a lecture hall was conditioned with shelves, working desks and computers to facilitate the online information search, as well as the consultation of the library’s search engines. On that beginning the acquis was made of the basic bibliography of the five bachelors programs that made up the first academic term; Administration, Law, Design, Computer Engineering and Applied Mathematics.

On the month of July of 2006 the UAM-C left the UIA installations to occupy a building acquired under commodatum, located in Av. Constituyentes 1054. In that building an approximately 300m2 space was conditioned to host the campus library, equipped with 25 double shelves, 12 joint working desks with 4 chairs each, a space for informal reading, a loan desk and 7 working stations for the library staff. On the month of June also of 2006, the library of the Campus Xochimilco allowed access to the ALEP system to the campus Cuajimalpa, with this last becoming a sub-library of the automation of the campus Xochimilco.

During the trimester term that began in September 2007, four new bachelor programs began at the campus Cuajimalpa; Socio Territorial Studies, Humanistic Studies, Communication Sciences and Information Systems and Technologies; as well as the new generation of the already existing programs. For this new stage another building located in the Artificios street, number 40, was available. There took residence the alumni of the programs within the Academic Divisions of Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as Natural Sciences and Engineering. To keep up with the library needs in the new location, a space with the basic bibliography of the programs lectured there was conditioned, general and specialized works of consult and a literature collection.

With the establishment of yet another temporary location, located in the Baja California street, aimed at providing the Social Sciences and Humanities programs, a new library was installed in order to keep with the loan service of that Academic Division.

It is important to mention that the acquisition of the bibliographic resources, as well as the technical process was done in a centralized manner in the office located at the Av. Constituyentes 1054, and that daily all books, DVD and further material was delivered by shipping to each of the temporary locations.

Finally in January 2004 the campus Cuajimalpa takes hold of its definitive location, in Av. Vasco de Quiroga 4871, Cuajimalpa de Morelos, Santa Fe, in Mexico City. Where an area of 800m2 is reserved for the library, on that date the library heritage of the three library locations are gathered, and the service is opened to the public.

On the 28th of May of 2014 a ceremony is held to inaugurate the new library’s installations under the official name of “Dr. Miguel León Portilla”.

Currently the acquis has more than 33,000 titles and more than 49,000 volumes or exemplars, it gives service to approximately 2600 users belonging to the university community of the campus Cuajimalpa, made up of alumni, academic and administration staff, and has a daily affluence of approximately 950 users.
