UAM-C responds to the educational needs of western Mexico City, emphasizing the comprehensive training of its students through transdisciplinarity, intercultural perspective, and the development of social, civic, and ecological awareness. It builds an educational offer that balances modern programs with an environmental culture reflected, among other aspects, in the construction and operation of eco-friendly infrastructure.
The academic organization that has characterized UAM is based on an innovative model known as the Departmental Model. Introduced in 1974, it emerged as an alternative scheme to the educational models existing in the country at the time, which were mainly composed of traditional schools and faculties (UAM, 2005).
