General Civil Protection Information

UAM-C has two types of alarms: earthquake and fire. We are in a safe building. In the event of any alarm sounding, stay calm.

Identify the signage in the building.

Safety zone (lower-risk area).
Evacuation route arrows (indicate the shortest and safest exit route).
Assembly point (safest external site in the area).

Brigade members will inform you whether it is an earthquake or fire alert. They are identified by an ID badge.

In case of an earthquake, you must locate lower-risk areas to take shelter until the seismic motion stops (sample sign attached). Once the earthquake ends, facility evacuation will begin.
In case of a fire, you must evacuate the facilities immediately, following the evacuation route signs.
During evacuation, do not use elevators or glass hallways, and on the 4th floor, stay away from areas under the glass dome.

The only assembly point within the campus is at the front in the sports courts area.

Fire Brigade

Minimize damage and loss in facilities resulting from a fire threat, intervening with safety equipment available on campus and/or area.
Monitor the maintenance of fire protection equipment.
Ensure electrical lines are not overloaded and flammable material does not accumulate.
Ensure fire protection equipment is easy to locate.
Verify electrical installations receive permanent preventive and corrective maintenance for continuous safety.
Know how to operate fire extinguishing equipment according to each fire classification.

Communications Brigade

Maintain a phone directory of local emergency response services and share it with the entire community.
Call emergency response services based on the specific high-risk incident, emergency, disaster, or hazard.
Record the ambulance unit number, officer/personnel in charge, institution, and receiving medical facility, and contact the injured person's family.
Receive reports from each brigade according to the incident, informing the general coordinator and emergency responders.
Provide statements to media outlets if the severity of the incident warrants it.
Maintain bomb threat reporting protocols and forms in case of an incident.
Remain at the established communications post until cleared, or relocate to the assembly point using portable communication devices.
Run awareness campaigns so community members understand committee activities, members, roles, safety procedures, and emergency conduct.

First Aid Brigade

Maintain a list of individuals with chronic medical conditions, along with necessary medications for such cases.
Muster the brigade at a designated location during emergencies and set up a first aid post as required.
Provide immediate and temporary care to victims to sustain life and prevent further injury until specialized medical assistance arrives.
Hand over injured individuals to emergency medical responders.
Inventory medical equipment requiring maintenance and used supplies, notifying the head of the Internal Civil Protection Unit.
Keep first aid kits and medications updated and in good condition.

Evacuation, Search, and Rescue Brigade

Install, post, and maintain building emergency signage and floor map guides.
Maintain an updated personnel roster at all times.
Sound the evacuation signal following instructions from the general coordinator.
Promote effective response procedures during drills and active emergencies among building occupants.
Act as evacuation guides and rear guards during drills and active emergencies, directing individuals to lower-risk areas.
Designate assembly points.
Guide occupants to safety along hazard-free routes during emergency situations.
Verify evacuation routes remain clear of obstructions.
Direct occupants to alternate routes if primary paths are blocked or hazardous.
Conduct headcount accounting upon reaching assembly points.
Coordinate re-entry once danger has passed.
Coordinate shelter-in-place actions when necessary.
